In the fast-moving world of enterprise networking and modern cloud data centers, IT leaders continually seek efficient ways to increase network bandwidth without expanding their physical footprint. Cisco addresses this challenge directly with advanced optical interconnect technology that provides standard-setting performance, scalability, and operational reliability. As bandwidth demands escalate across modern enterprise infrastructures, adopting high-density 100G optical solutions has become vital for maintaining smooth data transmission.
To meet these industry requirements, Cisco introduced its 100G SFP-DD (Small Form-Factor Pluggable Double Density) module family. This solution doubles the density of standard SFP interfaces by using a two-lane electrical channel within a small physical package. As a result, organizations can effectively double their port density and upgrade overall throughput without replacing existing switch racks or compromising efficiency.
Product overview
The Cisco 100G SFP-DD product line includes a comprehensive range of optical transceivers, direct-attach copper cables, and active optical cables built for high-density environments. By doubling connection density relative to traditional SFP28 and SFP56 form factors, this portfolio enables systems integrators to optimize front-panel real estate across high-performance routers and switches.
The optical transceiver series covers a wide variety of distance requirements and cable types. For short-distance connections, the Cisco SFPDD-100G-SR4 operates over multimode fiber up to 100 meters. Single-mode optical deployments are covered by the SFPDD-100G-DR-S for 500-meter reach, the SFPDD-100G-FR-S for distances up to 2 kilometers, and the SFPDD-100G-LR4 for long-reach links up to 10 kilometers. Furthermore, the SFPDD-100G-CWDM4 provides cost-efficient multiplexed transmission over 2 kilometers of single-mode fiber.
To support high-density short-range connections inside server racks, Cisco offers Direct Attach Copper (DAC) cables, including models SFPDD-PC0101, SFPDD-PC0151, SFPDD-PC0202, and SFPDD-PC0205. For flexible intra-rack and row-to-row setups, Cisco supplies Active Optical Cables (AOC) such as the SFPDD-100G-AOC1M, AOC2M, AOC3M, AOC5M, AOC7M, and AOC10M models, providing lightweight cabling alternatives.

The Cisco® 4 x SFP10G to QSFP Reverse Adapter (4SQRA) offers Quad Small Form Factor Pluggable Plus (QSFP+) connectivity for 10 Gigabit Ethernet Small Form-Factor Pluggable Plus (SFP+)–only platforms. It allows smooth and cost-effective migration to 40 Gigabit Ethernet by providing an option to use QSFP+ modules with empty SFP+ ports when the other end of the network is running at 40 Gigabit Ethernet.
Features and benefits
The Cisco 4SQRA Reverse Adapter (Figure 1 and Figure 2) converts four SFP+ ports into a QSFP+ port. With this adapter, customers have the flexibility to use a QSFP+ module to connect to a 40 Gigabit Ethernet port on the other end of the link. This flexibility allows a cost-effective transition to 40 Gigabit Ethernet by maximizing the use of existing or new 10 Gigabit Ethernet SFP+ platforms. This reverse adapter supports the QSFP+ optics listed in Table 1.

Mounting accessories
The 4SQRA Reverse Adapter can be attached to a bracket (Figure 3) or mounted on a tray (Figure 4) in groups of eight or less. The 2RU tray features front-facing slots for cable management and a pull-out drawer for easy access. Both the tray and bracket are designed for mounting on a standard 19-inch rack. The bracket includes an outboard extender to alleviate mechanical interference with the rack if necessary.
