As artificial intelligence, cloud computing, and high-performance applications expand rapidly, modern data centers face unprecedented demands for network bandwidth. To keep pace with massive traffic growth, enterprise and service provider networks require ultra-high-density interconnect solutions that deliver exceptional speed without compromising operational efficiency or power consumption. Cisco addresses these critical demands with its advanced 800G OSFP (Octal Small Form-Factor Pluggable) transceiver module portfolio.
Designed to power next-generation network architectures, Cisco 800G OSFP technology delivers a major leap in transmission capacity. These optical modules provide robust, scalable, and reliable connectivity across modern data center fabrics. By transitioning to 800G optics, organizations can consolidate physical infrastructure, maximize rack space utilization, and significantly lower operational expenses while building a flexible network capable of handling demanding workload environments.
Product overview
The Cisco 800G OSFP lineup includes a versatile range of optical transceivers and direct-attach copper solutions engineered for varied distances and deployment scenarios. For short-reach multimode fiber (MMF) connections, Cisco provides the OSFP-800G-VR8 and OSFP-800G-SR8 modules, offering efficient intra-rack and inter-rack connectivity up to 50 meters and 100 meters, respectively.
For single-mode fiber (SMF) applications across longer distances, the portfolio includes high-performance optical transceivers such as the OSFP-800G-DR8, OSFP-800G-DR8+, OSFP-800G-2FR4, and OSFP-800G-2LR4, covering distances from 500 meters up to 10 kilometers. Cisco also offers dual-carrier breakout modules, including the OSFP-2X400G-FR4, OSFP-2X400G-LR4, and OSFP-2X400G-DR4, allowing seamless transitions and flexible migration from 400G to 800G network architectures.
To complete the interconnect ecosystem, Cisco delivers direct-attach solutions, including OSFP-800G-CU passive copper cables and OSFP-800G-AOC active optical cables. These solutions offer cost-effective, low-latency, and energy-efficient links ideal for high-density server-to-switch racks.
