Cisco XFP modules represent a vital solution for high-speed enterprise, data center, and service provider networking. Designed for maximum operational versatility, these transceivers deliver robust 10 Gigabit Ethernet and Packet-over-SONET/SDH (POS) connectivity. By bridging router platforms with optical fiber infrastructure, Cisco enables businesses to expand network capacity seamlessly without overhauling core systems.
Adopting a modular approach allows IT organizations to optimize capital expenditure through flexible deployment. Whether connecting enterprise wiring closets or driving multi-site transport links, these transceivers ensure reliable data delivery, reduced total cost of ownership, and full compatibility across Cisco hardware ecosystems.
Product overview
The Cisco XFP portfolio spans a full spectrum of distances, power profiles, and environmental specifications. For short-range multimode fiber deployments, the Cisco 10GBASE-SR module (XFP-10G-MM-SR) delivers dedicated Ethernet performance up to 400 meters on OM4 fiber.
For single-mode fiber links up to 10km, Cisco provides versatile multirate options supporting both Ethernet and SONET applications. This selection includes the primary XFP-10GLR-OC192SR transceiver, the energy-efficient XFP10GLR-192SR-L operating at 1.5W, and the ruggedized XFP10GLR192SR-RGD engineered for extreme industrial environments (-40°C to 85°C).
To address extended distances up to 40km, Cisco offers multirate 10GBASE-ER/EW and OC-192/STM-64 IR-2 transceivers. Options include the standard XFP-10GER-192IR+ module, the low-power XFP10GER-192IR-L at 2.5W, and the industrial-grade XFP10GER192IR-RGD transceiver.
For long-haul connections reaching up to 80km, the lineup features multirate 10GBASE-ZR/ZW and OC-192/STM-64 LR-2 transceivers. Businesses can choose between the standard commercial XFP-10GZR-OC192LR module and the industrial-rated XFP10GZR192LR-RGD, ensuring comprehensive coverage across demanding operating environments.
